In New Zealand, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SUDI) is a leading cause of death for our babies.
- Risks include smoking exposure during pregnancy
- Bed sharing
- Premature – born before 37 weeks of gestation
- Low birth weight – less than 2500 grams
- Regular smoking, alcohol and/or other drug use in baby’s household
- Teenage mother
- Mother on medication that may make her drowsy
- Maori or Pacific Island
If you or a mother to be that you know has one or more of these risk factors you may be eligible for a free Pepi-Pod or Wahakura.
